From October 20 to 23, 2022, the 2nd edition of the FànHuā Chinese Film Festival at Cinema La Compagnia and Mercato Centrale Firenze showcases 15 films, exploring themes like New Talents, Female Gazes, and Past and Present. The program includes international and European premieres, along with classics like "The Last Emperor," celebrating the convergence of Italian and Chinese culture through cinema, cuisine, and arts. Talks during the festival delve into the connections between Italian and Chinese cinema.

From November 23 to 27, 2022, the Women’s International Film Festival (Cinema e Donne) in Florence returns with the theme "The Thousand Faces of Violence," showcasing 27 films addressing both physical and cultural/social violence against women. The festival also premieres the 1972 American documentary "It Happens to Us" by Amalie Rothschild, exploring pre-legalization experiences of abortion, along with talks on "Instead of Violence" around the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25.

The River to River, Florence Indian Film Festival, from December 6 to 11, 2022, at Cinema La Compagnia, showcased 34 films, including premieres in Europe, along with diverse activities like a fashion show and photography exhibition. Opening with "Godavari" and closing with "Almost Pyaar," the festival pays tribute to Pasolini's connection with India, offering a cultural blend of cinema and art forms.

Florence's historic Odeon cinema, closed since July, is set to reopen with renovations after negotiations with the city council. Owned by the Germani family and Giunti Editore, the 100-year-old cinema plans to prioritize 60% cinema use and 40% cultural activities, including a bookshop and various events to revitalize the space.

Celebrate the holiday season in Florence with attractions like the Santa Village & Street Food and the Florence Ice Village, featuring a Ferris wheel and ice skating rink until January 15. Don't miss the Christmas Eve Concert at Teatro Verdi, showcasing the Orchestra della Toscana, led by conductor Daniele Rustioni and violinist Francesca Dego.

The most famous US coffee chain in the world is finally arriving in Florence. A new Starbucks will be located in the train station’s underpass and will be the second outlet in the region.The US coffee giant had been trying to open a shop in the center for years. Many possibilities were contemplated like the former Capitol or the former Apollo cinema in via Nazionale.

With the Uffizi Gallery reopening exceptionally after Christmas on December 26, followed by other city museums on December 27, ’tis the season to follow a Nativity scene itinerary to admire paintings, sculptures and stained glass masterpieces created by artistic masters down the ages.  The Uffizi Gallery will be additionally open on January 1 with free admission.

After a 20-month restoration and a €250,000 investment, the Uffizi library reopened on December 27. The library is also known as the “Magliabechiana” library. It was named after Antonio Magliabechi who was the first librarian to oversee the library. When he passed away, he donated roughly 30,000 books and thanks to this Florence had its first public library. On December 16, 1998 the Uffizi Library was officially established in the Magliabechiano hall.
